Case Study

Effect of Change of Pressure

What happen when we start putting pressure and compress a gas enclosed in a cylinder?

If we start putting pressure on a gas containing cylinder then gas wil compressed and becomes liquid. Increasing the pressure and decreasing temperature causes a change in state of matter.

Interconversion of three states

Have you heard of solid carbon dioxide(CO2)? It is stored under high pressure. Solid CO2 gets converted directly to gaseous state on decrease of pressure to atmosphere without coming into liquid state. This is the reason that solid carbon dioxide is also known as dry ice. Thus the pressure and temperature determine the state of asubstance, whetherit willbe solid ,liquid or gas.
